The North American Martyrs!

Happy Feast of the North American Martyrs!

8 Jesuits, martyred here, the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church, and they started the Church in Canada!
Also, if you have a desperate cause you need to pray about, St. Jude is the one to pray to, and today you can start the novena! Here it is!

Also, this month is the month of Our Lady of the rosary, heres a cool story about how a girls life was saved from Ted Bundy by the rosary!

Well, I'm a little late but Oct. 10 is the Douglas Adams day!

It was the 10th day of the 10th month of the year, and if Y2K never happened, this year would be ’10. In binary notation, 101010 is 42 in base 10.
Oct. 10 was the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything!

And 25 years ago (1985) yesterday is the day that Nintendo released the NES...thats old school!

When a professor at Sweden's Umea University had his computer stolen, he was devastated by the loss of his data more than anything. But a week after the theft, he got a package in the mail: A USB drive.

The thief had backed up his data and mailed it to him.

Saints, saints, saints!

Exciting time!!! There is so much I wanna talk about and so little time!

First and foremost, an introduction to a newly canonized saint, and not just for the whole church, but especially for Canada!

Introducing....

Saint Andre Bassette

A simple doorkeeper, but also helped build he huge St. Joseph's Oratory in Montreal and also, through St. Joe's intercession, is attributed with many many healings!

Heres a Vatican pdf Document of bios of each of the saints being canonized (in different languages, English is in there, you have to look) and they include, with Brother Andre, Mother Mary MacKillop, an Australian, and a medieval saint. Very nice!

A contingent of Catholic Christian Outreach staff (the organization that I work for) is in Rome now for this historic event, and they have a blog of their grace filled adventures there.

The latest adventure, they were interviewed on CTV, here, if you skip to 6 min in part one you'll see Andre and Angele Regnier, the founders of CCO and Ettiene De Champlain, awesome!

And all this the day after the feast of St. Marie Marguerite d'Youville (1701-1771), the first Canadian born person elevated to sainthood, and now we have the first male Canadian born person canonized! Then on Tuesday, we celebrate the North American Martyrs, the eight Jesuits who shed their blood for the Canadian Church! This is a very special time for the Canadian Church!

Next order of Business...

We had our first Cornerstone here at Queens! Its an outreach event that we put on monthly here. The theme was openess and abandonment. We had 4 testimonies, two from students, two from staff, praise and worship and fellowship. It went really well, we had about 25-30 students come out! I was blessed to be part of the music group, and we're getting really TIGHT! The Spirit is moving! Keep praying!

Last Thing, George Weigel, the guy who wrote the mammoth 1,000 page Witness to Hope, biography of the life of Pope John Paul II, (and every page was needed, JPII's life could fill tomes with the amount of good he did) just finished the sequel. (No, its not called, John Paul II, THE RETURN OF SUPERMAN!)

Its about the last few years of John Paul II's life, what I found interesting is the clip of an interview with the Weigel about the book. First how he describes the Pope's “last encyclical” as the experience of the world watching him die...wow! That was a huge witness to the world! then this part!

TCS: What do you think is one of the most enduring accomplishments of John Paul II’s papacy?

GW: I think the thread that is woven throughout all of them (the great accomplishments) is, as I said a moment ago, is this notion that the church is a mission, the church doesn’t have a mission. The church doesn’t exist for its own maintenance. The church exists for the proclamation of the Gospel and the invitation of the world to friendship with Christ and following God through
history and the path God is taking.

"The Church exists for the proclamation of the Gospel!" put that in your meditation pipe and smoke it!(with incense)

And now, in celebration of the Chilean's getting out of the mine!

Pyros of the world...IGNITE!

This weekend,
Thanksgiving, (Thank you, Lord... for everything)

Our Lady of the Rosary :Today (more on this below)

Related to the title of the blog, todays Gospel:

"If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?” Lk. 11:13

Here in Queens U Catholic Christian Outreach/Newman House, we've been asking for Fire and the Holy Spirit. In today's Gospel, after reading the first part of this quote you'd think Christ would say, "how much more gifts would the Father give you." But, no, He says "will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him." So we need to ask Him for the Holy Spirit! Ask forgiveness for your sins, and ask for the Holy Spirit and you'll be set on FIRE!
Finally, today is the feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary! The anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto! It was the decisive defeat of the Turkish Ottoman empire by the Holy League, credited to Our Lady when the pope called Christendom to pray en masse the rosary! This defeat effectively saved Christendom from invasion!

And who better to commemorate then G.K. Chesterton from his extended poem, Lepanto

Don John laughing in the brave beard curled,
Spurning of his stirrups like the thrones of all the world,
Holding his head up for a flag of all the free.
Love-light of Spain--hurrah!
Death-light of Africa!
Don John of Austria
Is riding to the sea.

The Archangels!

When discussing geology and erosion, I often get sedimental and break down.

Today is the feast of the Archangels!

And I've been working on the Summit this Friday, an adoration/worship/meditation/testimony time. So adoration and angels, the verse that really struck me was Isaiah 6:1-3.
In the year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne, with the train of his garment filling the temple. Seraphim were stationed above; each of them had six wings: with two they veiled their faces, with two they veiled their feet, and with two they hovered aloft. "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts!" they cried one to the other. "All the earth is filled with his glory!" At the sound of that cry, the frame of the door shook and the house was filled with smoke.
Sts. Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, pray for us.
Oh, and Tony and Ridley Scott (Gladiator) are working on a movie called Archangel! Nothing to do with Angels but cool!
